Red Truck Leaves Scene of Clarksville, Tennessee Collision
On October 30th, a Clarksville car accident occurred when a driver lost control of his car after trying to avoid a red truck that was veering into his lane.
While the red truck went on, the other driver skidded into a parking lot, crashing into two parked cars.
The impact was substantial; the driver was partially thrown from his truck causing serious injury. The driver was transported to Vanderbilt hospital. Clarksville Officials are still looking for the red truck that caused the accident.
Tennessee drivers who are involved in a collision should never leave the scene until an officer has gotten their information and any injured drivers or passengers are cared for. The Tennessee Department of Safety frequently addresses their concerns with drivers leaving the scene of an accident. http://public.findlaw.com/traffic-ticket-violation-law/traffic-ticket-a-z/hit-and-run.html

Nashville man killed crossing busy street
In Nashville Tennessee, a local man was trying to cross a busy roadway when he was struck and killed by an ongoing motorist. The accident occurred around 7:00 p.m. as he was trying to cross Ellington Parkway, toward Douglas Avenue before he was carelessly run over. Officials say that this man appeared to be in his twenties.
Ellington Parkway is a limited access, 4 lane divided highway with a grass median. Most of its path through Davidson County is through residential areas. The kind of places where someone might be taking a short cut and Ellington Parkway is the shortest path.
There is often a tendency to blame the victim in cases, especially pedestrian cases. The fact is that most of us are more likely to be drivers than pedestrians and we don’t give it a lot of thought. Do we think this pedestrian was suicidal? On drugs or alcohol? Those things are possible, but the real question is “Could this accident been avoided?” Being on drugs or alcohol doesn’t entitle someone to irresponsibly run you down like a wild animal.
Pedestrian accidents in Tennessee occur everyday due to poor lighting, not enough cross walks, and drivers carelessly not paying enough attention. At the same time, the cost of buying, insuring and maintaining a car puts more and more people “a foot”. We have lots of things that need to be done to make this a better and safer community for everyone in Nashville – dealing with public transit is one of them.

East Tennessee fatal crash kills 4 people
An east Tennessee car crash involving a tractor trailer has left 4 people dead including two children and two adults, one who was pregnant. The accident happened on Tennessee Highway 68, and county road 292.
The Tennessee Department of Safety is including the woman’s unborn baby as a victim in the case. The driver of the big rig escaped injury even after the cab of his truck caught fire, but all of the people in the car that was hit, were killed.
Our condolences to the family and loved ones for this terrible tragedy.
The facts we have are scant – and certainly trucks are entitled to be on the roadway, but what happened here? Truck drivers are supposed to be professional drivers, and they are legally required to limit their driving time so they can be alert. That’s a rule that is often violated. Was that rule violated here? Was the car not visible from any of the truck’s mirrors? Did the driver look?
It can be scary out there. If you are around large trucks, don’t assume they are paying attention (as they should be) or using their mirrors (as they should be).

A Dickson County man killed after crashing into a house
A Dickson County Tennessee crash involving a pickup truck has resulted in the death of a Tennessee man.
The crash happened on September 22nd and initial speculation is that the man driving the pick up truck had a heart attack and lost control of the vehicle. We know he was thrown out of the front windshield of the truck, and flew into the side of a house.
The truck then rolled, and rested against the house. Our condolences go out to this man’s family. Fortunately his sister, and her grandson who were also in the truck survived. Still this is a terrible memory. It is unfortunate that this man was not (apparently) wearing a seatbelt. While heart attacks are very serious, his chances of survival became dramatically worse when he was thrown from the truck.

Robertson County woman killed in fatal accident
A Middle Tennessee woman was killed this past Monday, September 25th taking her son to school. The incident occurred on Highway 25, in Robertson County, around 7:25 a.m. When rescue patrol arrived at the scene, EMS said that it took a while to get the trapped woman out of her earlier model Camaro. Her son was rushed to Vanderbilt where he was listed in critical condition.
Reports are that the victim was traveling toward Springfield when she lost control, and hit another car. Our condolences go out to this woman’s family, this seems so random and without reason.
Why did this accident happen? We don’t know at this point. We know the weather wasn’t bad that day. The driver/mother wasn’t under the influence. Were there other distractions involved? We may never know.
Dozens of people are involved in car accidents in Tennessee daily due to driver distractions and speeding. You can click here to read more about them.

Could slow rescue responses to Davidson and Robertson County accidents be responsible for deaths of Tennessee motorists?
In April of 2010, a young man, his first year out of high school, was killed in a car accident on HWY 41. His accident occured in Davidson county, however, Robertson county rescue was closer to the scene. He waited for the Davidson county rescue, and ultimately, lost his life.
His mother is furious. She, and so many others, want to know why Robertson county officals weren’t informed, or allowed to go in after this accident. Less than 5 months later, another accident happened just 10-20 feet away from where the first accident occured. This time man the victim was a motorcyclist. The same problem arose as he waited for the Davidson County rescue, he also lost his life. His passenger was critically injured.
The problem here isn’t always the roads. The thing we should be looking at, is why people are dying on the streets, when rescue is less than two miles away, but can’t respond due to county jurisdictions. It’s terribly said what has happened to these two men, and we are very sympathetic toward thier families.
There should be work on this system.. Work that allows neighboring counties to respond to potentially deadly accidents. Please click here, to learn more about Tennessee auto accidents..

Tennessee car crash in Macon county kills two people
Early this past Thursday morning, two people’s lives were cut short in a two vehicle crash in Macon County. The crash was apparently caused by an 18 year old man when he lost control and crossed the center lines, and slammed his Honda into a Camry head on.
It is thought that the 18 year old fell asleep at the wheel. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts, but that obviously wasn’t enough. Officials say they do not believe that drugs or alcohol was a factor in this accident. Our deepest sympaties go out to the family of these two young people. This accident is one of many that could be avoided. Too many drivers are driving while they are too tired to effectively opperate a vehicle. Which, in turn, almost always causes an accident.

SUV runs red light in downtown Nashville
A Nashville car accident occurred around 4 p.m. on Monday October 11. Early reports indicate that an SUV driver ran a red light at the intersection of 2nd Avenue and Korean Veterans Boulevard. The SUV crashed into a Dodge Avenger. Police and Fire Rescue responded to the scene, and EMS began to treat the driver of the SUV, and he was taken to a near by Nashville hospital. The accident created a massive traffic backup.
Car accidents in Nashville are not something new, we see them and read about them everyday. The difference is that when a driver of a large vehicle (like an SUV) runs a red light, they put others at great risk. As an example, a Chevrolet Tahoe weighs over 5500 lbs (that’s two tons). A Ford Explorer weigh over 4400 lbs. A typical Honda Accord? 3200 lbs, more than 1000 lbs less than these examples of SUV vehicles on the streets of Nashville.
SUV drivers aren’t any more careful, or any more stringently tested, than any other driver – but they should be. This accident could have been avoided, had this man been paying attention and not ran the red light. To learn more about red light statistics, please click here.

Texting while driving poses threats to teens in Tennessee
Texting while driving poses a huge risk to teenage drives in the Tennessee area. Are the teenagers in the area getting the message they need to be safe? A public service announcement that was filmed in hopes that some teens would get the message they all need. The psa is very graphic, but to the point. To watch the video, click here, Texting While Driving Public Service Announcement.
Some say that the video is much too graphic to be shown to teenagers around the world, but I believe it can not only help the vision teens have, but change their way of driving. Statistics show that teen drivers in Tennessee are 60% more likely to cause an accident when they are texting, or have other distractions. And texting is the number one distraction on the road. Please go here to learn more about distractions on the road.

Tennessee motorcyclist killed in high-speed car accident
On October 8th, 2010, around 8:30 p.m., a Tennessee motorcyclist was killed as he crashed at a high rate of speed. The crash occurred in Madison, TN. Officials say that an Altima was turning left out of a parking lot when the accident happened. The motorcyclist reportedly was going about 100 mph, and tried to change lanes to avoid crashing into the Altima, but was unsuccessful. When the two crashed, the impact caused the car to make a 180-degree turn. The driver of the motorcycle was rushed downtown Nashville to Vanderbilt Medical Center, where medical officials pronounced him dead. The driver of the car reports that he didn’t see the motorcycle until after impact.
Our deepest sympathies to the family of this young man. This was an unfortunate, unneccessary death.
Statistics show that almost two thirds of all deaths related to motorcycle accidents in Tennessee and nationally are related to speeding. See here for more information. Unfortunately, speeding among younger riders is common. There was nothing done by this young man that isn’t repeated by younger motorcycle riders across Nashville and Tennessee every day. Most of the time, even though speeding on a motorcycle is both dangerous and illegal, the rider gets away with it and enjoys the thrill. What can we do to help? Rider education? We know riders in this age group (20-29) are most at risk for injury or death while riding a motorcycle. I would hope education could make a difference – but at this age it would have to be voluntary.
